I’ve been to several AA meetings in different places. In general, they tend to be very similar. Coffee, cigarettes and alcoholics. However, I was coerced into a meeting once (in Canada) where the members were nothing like I’d encountered b4. They spoke of their sponsors “breaking ankles”, “using 2 by 4s” etc. One guy said he was there for golf. (I guess excessive golfing???). And none of them looked like they’d ever spent a day on the street. I gave a puzzled look to a woman beside me who whispered something like “just keep quiet and it’ll be fine”. I realy felt like they were putting on a show. Who knows. But I think as mentioned in your blog, there are other groups who hijack AA meetings to accomplish their own agenda. For example, any group who felt alcoholics are supressive to society might.
